AUSTRALIA
Australia is home to many the quiet achiever. CDR Australia aims to stimulate production activity across in this southern most bastion, while sharing the knowledge of the experienced and unearthing the innovative. While the island-continent is so far flung, CDR Australia’s presence is lived through sessions in Sydney and Melbourne.
The Australian sessions were launched in 2006 by Lorna Clarkson (RBMA Alumni) and Mark Pritchard (Warp). UK founder Tony Nwachukwu was host for the first CDR Sydney. An instant success, the session drew an intriguing collection of artists together, sharing works in progress.
CDR Sydney’s team grew over the years to include Sofie Loizou (RBMA Alumni), Alex Crowfoot (OllO) and Martin Flex. To this day Sofie is the director of the Sydney mainstay.
Melbourne sessions were held ad-hoc from 2010, however without the presence of a team, there was no scope for regular events. With so many Melbournians appearing in CDR forays around the world, it was just a matter of time before a team was established. In November 2013, Sonia Miles-Khan (Pulse Radio) asked if she could do the honors.
Noteworthy Australian CDR Alumni are Jitwam, Donalds House, Anomie, Jonny Faith, Ben Houghton, Amateur Dance and Andy Ukhtomsky. Guest speakers at CDR Australia have also included Martyn, Mala, Theo Parrish and Huxley.
